Kyoshi Takahama’s monument
This is a haiku by one of Japan’s most famous haiku poets, Kyoshi Takahama, when he came to Hokkaido in 1919 to participate in the Hototogisu Hokkaido Haiku Contest. The poem reads “Birds constantly chirping on a tree as a few fly away.” The monument was erected in 1943.
